As the battle was going on, Nanami though wounded, went underground and met some disfigured ex-humans and cursed spirits. He fought and killed them while expressing his displeasure at killing humans.

In the process, he came across Mahito, a cursed spirit. Mahito then placed his hand on Nanami’s chest and they had a conversation. Yuji’s sudden arrival distracted Nanami and Mahito got the chance to finish him off and went on to attack Yuji.

Nanami’s last words to Yuji “You’ve got it from here”, were uttered because he was worn-out and too tired to fight. He knew his end was near and Mahito took advantage of his weakened state.

Nanami finally discovered why he never again abandoned his Jujutsu work just before his death. Being on the brink of death, he remembered Haibara and asked him why he thought he came back to be a Jujutsu Sorcerer, to which Haibara points to Yuji in a vision.

This served as an answer to Nanami, meaning that he passes the baton to Yuji. At first he had his reservations about passing on curses to “little” Yuji but he is saying, “Itadori-kun, I will leave the rest to you.”

In What Episode Did Nanami Die?

The Shibuya Incident Arc took place on 31st October, 2018, in Chapter 120 of the manga. It was in that fight that Mahito, the cursed spirit, killed Nanami even as Yuji tried to save him but failed.

In the anime form though, the exact episode wasn’t named as the scene had not been adapted yet.
