Kakashi Hatake is a Hatake clan shinobi of Konohagakure. He is one of the most talented ninjas of Konohagakure, and leads a group of students named ‘Team 7’.
Kakashi dies in episode #159 of the anime Naruto: Shippūden, titled “Pain vs. Kakashi”. In the episode, Pain (a key antagonist of the series) inflicts grievous wounds on Kakashi, leading him to die.
Thankfully Kakashi is revived by Pain (ironic as it may seem!), along with all the others killed during the battle. Also know whether Kiba dies or not.
Who Is Kakashi?
Kakashi is a shinobi of the Hatake clan, and one of the most talented ninjas in Konohagakure. He leads the students of ‘Team 7’, and strongly values teamwork and loyalty.
Kakashi was born on September 15, to his father Sakumo and an unknown mother. Kakashi’s mother died when he was very young, and Sakumo died by suicide when Kakashi was five, following a mission that went disastrously awry.
Seeing his father’s torment instilled in Kakashi a great need to follow the Shinobi Rules above all else, and he carried this lesson with him as he grew up.
Kakashi graduated from the Academy at age 5, and became a genin under the leadership of Minato Namikaze (‘Team Minato’). At age 6, Kakashi passed his Chūnin Exams and became a chūnin.
When Team Minato teammate Rin is kidnapped by Kakkō and Taiseki, Kakashi and fellow teammate Obito Uchiha attempt to rescue her. Obito sacrifices himself to save Kakashi, and Kakashi promises that he will look after Rin.
Upon rescuing Rin from a later kidnapping, she reveals that the Three Tails had been sealed inside her body, with the purpose of destroying Konohagakure once she lost control of it. To prevent this from happening, Rin jumped in front of an attack of Kakashi’s, dying by his hand to save Konohagakure.
Following the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kakashi becomes Konohagakure’s Fourth Hokage.
How Did Rin And Obito’s Deaths Affect Kakashi?
The deaths of Rin and Obito profoundly affected Kakashi, sending him into a deep depression. Minato assigned him to protect his wife during her pregnancy, but his mood did not seem to lift hugely.
Minato dies during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox’s attack on Konohagakure, and emotionally vulnerable Kakashi is persuaded by Danzō (an elder of Konohagakure) to spy on the Third Hokage. However, Kakashi changes his mind upon meeting the Hokage, and becomes his right-hand man.
Kakashi becomes a member of Team Ro (an elite Anbu unit) alongside Itachi Uchiha. When it is revealed that Itachi murdered his clan and best friend, Kakashi felt responsible for not being a better influence on Itachi.
After this, The Third Hokage thanked and relieved Kakashi of his duty, returning him to standard forces.
Kakashi led many different teams over the years, but the one to stand out remains ‘Team 7’ – a trio that values the teamwork and loyalty that Kakashi holds so dearly.
What Is Kakashi’s Personality Like?
Kakashi is very independent and self-confident, and has been since he was a child. He is perceptive and intuitive, and for years after his father’s death Kakashi was incredibly strict about following the shinobi rules – both for himself and others.
In adulthood, Kakashi is relaxed and level-headed. He is a ninja of renowned skill, but shows no arrogance.
Kakashi is not without his faults, however (like all of us!) – he is habitually tardy, and often is overly blunt regarding sensitive or emotional topics. He holds himself to a very high standard, and for a time struggled with guilt over breaking his promise to keep Rin safe.
Obito’s death caused Kakashi to focus less on the shinobi rules and more on teamwork and his teammates’ well-being and safety. This lesson stayed with Kakashi, and as a mentor for students he underlines its importance.
Team 7 are very important to Kakashi, as they embody the teamwork that he values so much.
Kakashi is also an avid reader – he is known to be a big fan of Jiraiya’s ‘Icha Icha’ series.
What Does Kakashi Look Like?
Kakashi has spiky silver hair, dark grey eyes and a relaxed expression. He has a vertical scar at his left eye from an injury obtained in the Third Shinobi World War, and for a time he was without his original eye (it has since been restored by Naruto).
Kakashi wears a forehead protector and most times a mask, so much so that his ninken don’t remember what he looks like.
While in the Anbu, Kakashi wore a blue suit with a grey flak jacket, strapped sandals and arm guards.
Kakashi now wears a flak jacket, dark blue pants, a long sleeve shirt, fingerless gloves and a chain necklace. He wears a kanji, signifying his Hokage position.
What Are Kakashi’s Abilities?
Kakashi is one of Konohagakure’s strongest ever ninjas, and is incredibly versatile in his proficiencies. He is a master of all three main ninja skills: ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu, and also has a Sharingan (from Obito).
Kakashi has a personal pack of ninken (ninja dogs/hounds) that he raised from puppyhood, and he can use them for tracking, seeking out targets, fetching items and restraining targets.
Kakashi is a master of all five basic nature transformations (fire, earth, wind, water and lightning) along with the Yin Release and Yang Release. He is incredibly intelligent, and very talented at strategizing and problem-solving.
How Does Kakashi Die?
Kakashi dies in “Pain vs. Kakashi”: episode #159 of Naruto: Shippūden.
In a battle against Pain, Kakashi fools him by using a Lightning Release shadow clone of himself, thus avoiding Pain’s attacks and causing the clone to be impaled rather than himself.
Unfortunately, after discovering the ruse, Pain’s Deva Path fires a nail at Kakashi’s head, mortally wounding him. He dies shortly after, and is eager to be reunited with Obito, Rin and Minato.
After a confrontation with Naruto, Pain uses his remaining power to revive all those killed at the battle, using his Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. Kakashi, along with the others, is thus revived and recovers fully.
